Building

Scandinavian interiors treat furniture as background light: pale wood and visible construction, with air between the objects. A shelf in this tradition should carry its contents without filling the wall. KUUDU builds open by default – oak veneer (FSC European) on powder-coated aluminium, no back panel, so the wall stays part of the room.

The configuration shown here is two sections (150 cm) at about 180 cm height: one column stays low, the other runs tall, and a single closed box anchors the lower one. The asymmetry is the point. It keeps the silhouette light where a full grid would read as a wall unit. Boards run 35 cm deep, each rated for 20 kg.

Oak is the wood we currently ship: oiled, open-pored, on the 75 cm section grid that extends sideways up to 450 cm. Levels and gap heights are chosen per section in the 3D configurator, which shows price and dimensions as you build. Made in Germany.

FAQ

Which oak finish fits a Scandinavian interior?

The boards are oak veneer (FSC European), oiled and open-pored, over a powder-coated aluminium frame. The surface stays pale and matt rather than lacquered, which is the finish most Scandinavian interiors ask for.

Can the shelf stay low instead of tall?

Yes. Height is composed from foot, levels and gap heights per section, so the same parts build a sideboard-height run or a full wall. The configuration shown keeps one column low on purpose; you can level both or raise both in the configurator.

Why does the shelf have no back panel?

The open build lets the wall show through, which keeps a light interior light. Where you want visual rest, single cells can be built as closed boxes instead of adding a back.
