Montana Alternative: KUUDU Compared

  • 150 × 87 × 15 cm
  • FSC oak
  • Made in Germany
  • Configurable in 3D
Building

Montana has turned lacquered modules into a Danish signature: 36 units, four depths and a palette of 43 finishes, 41 lacquers and two veneers, composed into anything from a single box to a full wall. Anyone considering Montana is composing with volumes and colour. KUUDU composes with a different vocabulary – open oak levels on a 75 cm section grid, one material, no fronts.

Scandi-style oak wall shelf with offset sections — KUUDU modular shelving system

The configuration shown here is wall-hung: two sections (150 cm) at 87 cm height in 15 cm half depth, with the two columns deliberately offset. It attaches along a single line at the top, and the wall stays visible through the open build. Levels and gap heights are chosen per section, so the composition follows what it will carry.

Oak veneer (FSC European) on powder-coated aluminium, oiled and open-pored. The grid extends sideways up to 450 cm and rebuilds with the same parts when the room changes. The 3D configurator shows price and dimensions live; made in Germany.

FAQ

Does KUUDU come in colours?

No. Oak is the material we currently ship: oiled veneer (FSC European) over powder-coated aluminium, with black or white frame parts. Where Montana works in colour, a KUUDU wall works in wood grain and rhythm.

Can cells be closed like modules?

Yes. Any cell can be built as a closed box, so a run of closed volumes can sit inside the open grid. The configuration shown stays open; the configurator shows the box option per cell.

Wall-hung or freestanding?

Both. Wall-hung KUUDU attaches along a single line at the top; freestanding models stand on oak foot rosettes. The configuration shown here hangs – the same composition can be rebuilt standing.

How does KUUDU differ from the Montana shelving system?

Montana composes with lacquered modules in 43 finishes; KUUDU composes with open oak levels on a 75 cm section grid, one material throughout. Both are modular. The difference is vocabulary: colour and closed volumes on one side, visible wood and open air on the other.
