Muuto Stacked Alternative: KUUDU Compared

  • 225 × 141 × 35 cm
  • FSC oak

Building

Muuto's Stacked system, designed by Julien De Smedt, made the loose pile of boxes a design language: modules in lacquer or oak veneer, held by steel clips, arranged as casually or as strictly as the room asks. Anyone considering Stacked wants composition, not a fixed cabinet. Oak veneer is common ground – the construction differs.

The configuration shown is three sections (225 cm) at about 141 cm height with staggered levels between neighbouring columns. Where Stacked builds rhythm from offset boxes, this build takes it from offset boards: open, without cell walls, so light passes through the composition.

Oak veneer (FSC European) on powder-coated aluminium, oiled, 20 kg per board. Sections extend the grid sideways up to 450 cm, and the 3D configurator shows dimensions and price live while you compose. Made in Germany.

FAQ

Both use oak veneer – what differs?

The core and the build. Stacked veneers fibreboard modules and joins them with steel clips; KUUDU veneers boards that span between powder-coated aluminium posts on a 75 cm grid, without cell walls.

Can the composition change later?

Yes, that is the point of both systems. With KUUDU, levels, gap heights and boxes are re-chosen per section and the same parts rebuild – extension modules ship within the standard delivery time.

Does an open build need a podium?

No. Freestanding KUUDU stands on oak foot rosettes; wall-hung versions attach along a single line at the top. The floor stays visible under the shelf.
